Day 1 – Belize Zoo
Wow! I touched a jaguar! Today was my first day in Belize, my first foreign country. I had lunch with the class at the Belize Zoo. I got little tiny bug bites all over my ankles.
At night we all went back to the zoo for a night tour, where said jaguar was pet! It was really awesome to feed and pet some of the animals. My favorite was the little red deer.
Day 2 – First day on the island
Today was the first day on South Water Caye, and the first time I snorkeled in a long time. I was really scared until I got in the water. Once I was in it was so nice. The very first thing I saw was a large ray, dark, I don’t know what kind it was. Possibly a Southern, maybe an Eagle, but I’m not sure.
The fan orals were beautiful, and the schools of fish were hanging out between the different corals. Later, I saw a spotted eagle ray, very clearly. Rebecca (other one) and I swan behind it for a little while.
After dinner a group of us walked around the island. We saw a blue octopus, needle fish, and a lobster.
I talked with some of the girls working for IZE for the season. They talked about how the US is the land of opportunity, and most Belizeans try to get visas but most are denied.
Day 3 – Sea Sick
Today we snorkeled from the boat. I saw a beautiful very colorful parrot fish. A school of blue tangs swam under us. I had fun snorkeling but I was not feeling well in the waves. I am not very comfortable snorkeling anyway so I was having a hard time staying out in the water.
This afternoon we went on an algae walk. It was interesting to see all of the different types so close to the shore. The mermaids cups were pretty. I like how a lot of the common names are mermaid tools.
