The sun is finally starting to warm the air, and even though I have been working outside since February at The Farm, I am eager to do work around my own yard now. Last spring when I started back at The Farm it was the beginning of our Spring Planting field trips. A year later we are preparing for this year’s field trips!
During the spring we cater mostly to primary grades. Children come with their classes to learn all about spring planting at our farm. We teach them how to transplant Marigold plants that we start in the greenhouse. Then they head out to the field on a wagon ride where they get to plant their very own pumpkin seed. They learn that the seed needs soil, water and sunlight to grow, and with a kiss they send the seeds into the soil. This is a field trip I took myself as a kindergartener. Our hopes are that in the fall the following school year they will return for the fall field trip where they can pick a pumpkin out of the field, in hopes of finding the one they planted!
