During the weekend, it is easy for routine to be thrown out the window. I notice this especially with my sleeping habits. I stay up late, and sleep in too late. Then, come Monday morning, it is so hard to get out of bed energized and ready for the day. That is why I not only need to create a routine before bed, I also need to create a bedtime, even on the weekends.

Yesterday I was challenged by the Make Over Your Mornings course by creating a bedtime routine. I did pretty well with the tasks I wanted to do before bed, except yesterday was so crazy that I never touched my pile of laundry and couldn’t find any socks to set out..which means I had to find some this morning anyway.
This morning, while working through the course I was asked to think of my top priorities for the day and to start doing them early in the day. I had trouble thinking of these. Usually I jump into what ever task someone else has assigned me to do for that day. Whether it be going into the office for a few hours, or going to clean the milk house, I am always focused on getting things done for others first. That is just how I am, I want to serve and help others (and I love to! I am not complaining about it). So when asked what my top priorities for the morning would be, I was a little stumped.
What I need to do is set my own health as a priority everyday. Many times I run out to the barn without eating. Then once I am finished it is already lunch time. I have found myself exhausted from running from one task to the other that I forget to take care of myself. For the next few days, I am going to try to make taking care of myself a top priority. Especially early in the morning. I need to make eating breakfast my first priority before running out of the house, what ever else needs doing can wait the extra 10 minutes.
Things I would like to make a priority in the mornings and through out the new year:
- Eating breakfast.
- Exercise – More Yoga – amazing for the body and mind.
- Working through the devotional book that has been sitting on my shelf.
What kinds of things in your life need to be prioritized before you start all of the little tasks in your day? Are you remembering to make time to take care of yourself? Even if you have little ones running around, make sure you are taking a few minutes to take care of you!
